How often should an alarm system be serviced?
For Intruder Alarms: We recommend that your intruder alarm is maintained at least once per year. With Police response systems 6 monthly.
For Fire Alarms: British Standard BS 5839, under which fire alarm systems must be compliant, suggests that fire alarms undergo inspection by a competent person at least every six months.
This recommendation is amplified for larger premises with multiple alarms and complex systems installed, with the suggestion of increasing to quarterly fire alarm servicing.
Can you service an alarm if it was installed by a different company?

Do rental properties need a fire alarm?
The landlord of the rental property must provide smoke alarms on each floor of the property and check that the alarms are working at the start of the tenancy. They must also install carbon monoxide alarms in rooms with appliances that burn fuel, e.g. a gas boiler or wood-burning stove.
For houses with multiple occupations (HMO’s) then the landlord has extra fire safety responsibilities.
